A Visit with Mallory

Mallory popped in today, and brought me a little gift. See picture under So True...So True. That is the magnet she gave me. At 20, and after growing up with him, she knows Dan, oh so well. There is really nothing more to say.

9 Years Old..Oh My!

Our Nieces Cesiley (on top) and Eliese (on bottom) turned 9 years old last Friday. It does not seem possible that the little 3 year old who wanted only to make mud pizza pies at the cottage is now 9! Asked LeeCee while she was snuggling on my lap, what she would do when she was to big to fit, and she said "do it anyway, I love to snuggle." The highlight of the birthday party, was when Cesiley came up to me and belted this sentence out in a perfect British Accent. "You smell horrid...have you been dumpster diving?" Not in any way inferring that I smelled horrid, but this is her new favorite pasttime, speaking in a British accent, (sound familiar) and this is the phrase she gets the most laughs from.

This child( the twins eldest brother) also had a birthday this month. Can you guess that he is 14?
And even with the goofy expression on his face, he is still darn cute. Or should we say handsome, don't you have to say "handsome" when they are 14 year olds?

What do you do on a Snowy Day?

You start with shoveling, shoveling, shoveling. Then you get all toasty, enjoy a hot, strong, aromatic cup of coffee, and knit! This is a lovely, and I mean lovely pattern I found on http://www.knitty.com/ By Designer Cheryl Niamath. It is called "Fetching". Worked with Sublime Yarn in a wonderful Eggplant Color. This yarn is such a joy to work with, the silk slides as you work it. By 400pm I had one hand finished.
It is rather "fetching". Apologize for the thumb not showing, but my favorite resource for obscure items, only had a mannequin hand fisted. I have confidence that when Heidi goes through the basement into the box of mannequin parts she bought, we will find something with a open hand!
Right hand of "Fetching" 3/4 complete, had the misfortune of running out of yarn, pattern calls for one skein, so back to the LYS!

Sublime

Sublime; Exalted, Noble, having awe-inspiring beauty or grandeur.

I believe this Sublime yarn (cashmere, merino, silk) will make some sublime items. Just in time for a trip to the chilly south.

Seriously, if you have not tried all the cashmere blends available today, go to your LYS today, purchase some Debbie Bliss, Jo Sharp, Rowen or my favorite Sublime (gotta love the name). And whip something up tonight. While you are there don't forget to purchase your Addi Turbos the only needles worth having.

Think of me as I will be flirting with fibers tonight.

Just for Laughs

This photo was taken of Dan on Christmas Day at my Mothers. It was taken by my niece Gracie and when I first saw it...loved it, it's a great photo of him. But then...look closely in the background...see that lovely portrait over his left shoulder? That is yours truly in all her 1978 glory. No wonder I was never carded, I look like I'm forty. And not the forty I looked at forty. But FORTY! I was 17! Lovely!!!!
Feel free to zoom in and really get a laugh!!!

The Perfect Christmas Gift for Dan

This photo was taken late in October. The Coho Salmon were running and Dan treated his nieces and newphews to one of his special "adventures". They walked the creek in the back of his parents house, through the woods, over fallen logs, seeing and experiencing many outdoorsy things. This pic was snapped on the walk back to the house, after the 2 hour adventure.

When Dan received this from Ethan and Cesiley for Christmas, he turned and said,"this is all the present I needed".

I framed the photo and it now hangs by a tack in the drywall in his office lobby. It is just that special

Before & After

Before Felting
After Felting. And I mean felting, I felt the heck out of items, I do not like to see any stitches at all.
I find the easiest way to dry felted mittens is with old wire hangers(plastic coated) and tongue depressors. Pull out bottom of hanger to form a rounded edge, place up in the mitten, add depressor to the thumb. Stand in vase with oscillating fan until dry.
Recipients of Mittens: Cameron 14, Black and Celery Striped
Ethan 11, Camo

Are the Holidays over Yet?

During the last week I have been able to take time away from the store, and knit. Yes, knit! I got everything completed for my family's Christmas, but the LaCourts will not be celebrating until January 6th. I have 1 and 1/2 mittens left to complete. Yipeee!
I took 1 day away from the knit a thon to shop with my 2 oldest nieces, we had a great time, even tho I hate shopping and detest malls. The highlight of my day was a new knitting shop I finally visited in nearby Niles. " The Red Purl" was a wonderful, little shop, with lots of potential, I am thrilled it is so close.
It will be a great spot to visit, when company comes. Hint Hint.
